In her gestural abstract paintings, Molly Zuckerman-Hartung takes a performative approach to mark-making. She cuts, twists, pulls, and dyes, deftly manipulating the materials of her medium. At times breaking from the two-dimensional frame, her works verge on the sculptural. By performing these varied visual languages, Zuckerman-Hartung mines the history of painting and deconstructs its conceptual framework. She is the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, including the Louis Comfort Tiffany Award; and named Artist-in-Residence at Cannonball in Miami, FL and at the Rauschenberg Residency in Captiva Island, FL. She was included in the Whitney Biennial, 2014. In 2015, Zuckerman-Hartung was appointed a Critic in Painting and Printmaking at Yale University where she remains today. Her work is in the collections of the Aspen Museum of Art, Aspen, CO; DePaul University Art Museum, Chicago, IL; the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Chicago, IL; the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago, Chicago, IL; and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN.
