Barney Beins (Psychology) Participates on APA Task Force on Teaching Psychological Science in High School

Professor Barney Beins participated on a multi-year project with the American Psychological Association to create a model for teaching psychological science at the high school level.

The APA is highlighting the work of the High School Standards Working Group (https://www.apa.org/) in an effort to strengthen the psychology curriculum in high schools. This effort has culminated in a model that promotes scientific and critical thinking in the psychology class. The original standards for high school psychology were developed two decades ago and were revised. This new revision updates the older standards. The revisions are timely in that College Board has moved the Psychology Advanced Placement test from Humanities and Social Sciences and has categorized it with biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science.

The task force consisted of national group of college and high school teachers of psychology. APA’s governing bodies have formally approved the revisions, and the new standards will be circulated throughout the country.
