Dr. Staurowsky's Busy Spring of Presentations (and there are more in April)

It has been a busy spring thus far for Dr. Staurowsky.  On February 4, 2022, Dr. Staurowsky presented on the topic of Conceptualizing a 21st Century View of Title IX’s application to College Sport at the Colloquium on College Sport (In)Equity: Working Within and Beyond the Law to Achieve Intersectional Racial Justice Praxis at the University of Oklahoma.  Since then, she has also presented at the following:

  • February 11, 2022 - she joined law professors Tan Boston (University of Dayton) and Gabe Feldman (Tulane University) for the Louisiana State University Law “On the Basis of Sex: 50 Years of Title IX” Symposium – Panel on Title IX and NIL
  • February 17, 2022 – Dr. Staurowsky participated in The National Girls and Women in Sport Day and Title IX program hosted by the Institute for the Study of Sport, Society, and Social Change at San Jose State University.  Panelists included Sarah Axelson (Vice President for Communications, Women’s Sports Foundation); Courtney Flowers (Associate Professor, Texas Southern University); Jacqueline McDowell (Associate Professor, George Mason University), and Mel Day (Art Lecturer, SJSU) and moderated by Akilah Carter Francique (Director ISSSS, San Jose State University).
  • February 25, 2022 – Dr. Staurowsky spoke at a forum hosted by FutureU entitled “The Line Keeps Getting Crossed in Revenue-Producing College Sports” featuring Jason Kelly (associate editor, Notre Dame Magazine); and West Virginia legacy football players Mickey Plumley, Dick Roberts, Charlie Fisher, and Bob Zitelli along with Jared Good (law student, Penn State), moderated by Frank Fear (professor emeritus, Michigan State).
  • March 17, 2022 – Dr. Staurowsky presented to the New York State Athletic Administrators’ Association on the topic of Title IX in its 50th Year: What Every Athletic Director Needs to Know.  She also participated in a panel discussion on empowering women leaders in sport along with Maia Chaka (the first Black woman hired by the NFL to serve as a full-time on field official) and Kathy Hoyt (executive director, NY State Section V athletics). 
  • March 23, 2022 – Dr. Staurowsky presented alongside her former doctoral student, Jarrell Garcia (associate director, recreation, UC-Santa Barbara) on the topic of Former College Athletes within Non-Sport Professions: A Quantitative Study of the Impact of Athletic Identity on the Application of Transferable Skills at the College Sport Research Institute Conference at the University of South Carolina.
  • March 24, 2022 – Dr. Staurowsky delivered the keynote address at the College Sport Research Institute Conference at the University of South Carolina on College Athletes for Hire in the Endorsement Era.
