Tompkins County Emergency Response Launches SIREN

The Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response has announced that Tompkins County SIREN is now available to all residents within Tompkins County. This new system will soon replace the current Swift911 mass notification system that is currently being used.

Tompkins SIREN (Safety & Incident Real-Time Notifications) is a real time alert system service that is free and allows individuals to receive alerts sent from local authorities. The service allows residents to stay informed on potentially hazardous situations such as weather, traffic, and other emergencies. SIREN will also allow residents to receive alerts via phone, text, and email. Individuals who are signed up for alerts can also receive reliable information about the county’s COVID-19 response and other public health notifications. Individuals who were previously signed up for Swift911 will be automatically enrolled in the new system. However, they are encouraged to create a profile in the new platform. Residents can sign up for free by visiting tompkinscountyny.gov/SIREN or by texting SIREN to 67283.

IC Emergency Notification System

The campus community is also encouraged to sign up for the college’s Emergency Notification System (ENS). Ithaca College has partnered with Rave Mobile Safety to provide a comprehensive ENS that can deliver time-sensitive messages to members of the campus community via phone, email and text, as well as provide access to critical safety resources through the Rave Guardian mobile app. We highly encourage all members of the campus community to download the free app, which can be found in the Google Play Store for Android and the Apple App Store for iOS.

Ithaca College’s ENS also allows campus visitors and others who are not current students, faculty, or staff to sign up to receive an IC Alert text whenever the college sends out an emergency message via Rave. If you wish to opt into this service, text “ICVisitor” to 226787 to receive messages from Ithaca College. You can stop receiving messages at any time by texting “leave ICVisitor” to 226787. Message and data rates may apply. Text messages are sent on an as-needed basis. On July 15 of each year, all opt-in users will be purged from the system, at which time you must re-enroll if you wish to continue receiving IC Alert text messages for the next year.

Sincerely,

Samm Swarts, Assistant Director of Emergency Preparedness & Response
