"Stand Your Ground" is a story about two first-generation Cuban-American college students in Miami alienated by their college and its curriculum in the face of the 9/11 event and its aftermath. It explores their affiliation with the possibility that a ruined world offers, and it asks: how can we save ourselves from the worlds (the systems) we create? The story is included in his collection In This World of Ultraviolet Light, set to be released in March 2023 through Indiana University Press.
