Title:
Students supporting students through a crowdsourcing method

Description:  The importance of students supporting one another through challenging times of learning escalated with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Crowdsourcing of class notes is a tool that can be embedded in classes to support the sharing of knowledge between students. This session will describe the process used to implement and sustain sharing of class notes through the course of a semester, including the Spring 2020 semester.

Ellie Fulmer, Sarah Fishel, Matt Clauhs, Joe Ungco
Title:
Is Racism a Pandemic, or is it Endemic? A Discussion with Facilitators from the Ithaca College Antiracism Institute

Description:  This presentation will provide information about the Antiracism Institute at Ithaca College. Come learn about the ways faculty at the college have been working to dismantle the embedded racist practices in higher education, in their own teaching, and across Ithaca College. We will also provide some definitions and background on antiracism, and discuss our work as facilitators of this initiative.

Christin Schillinger, Jerry Mirskin, Ivy Waltz
Title: Fine Artists at Five

Description: When the pandemic reached us in March 2020, we felt the loss of not only our face-to-face classes and interactions but our engagement with the great art and artists in our community. So, for 15 minutes at the end of the day the CFE presented a program at 5PM to celebrate the great artists among us and to lift our spirits. We are joined today by three of the 90 wonderful artists who shared their work with us.

Bright Leaf - Relationships in Music
Professor of Bassoon, Christin Schillinger, will perform a newly composed (still unpublished) solo work for bassoon. Composer Jenni Brandon wrote Bright Leaf for Solo Bassoon for the occasion of Schillinger’s  wedding during 2021. Schillinger will discuss the unique history of this piece and the multiple musical relationships pertinent to its creation.

According to Piaget
The title of Professor Jerry Mirskin’s presentation refers to his interest in exploring those occasions on which we are able to/moved to see from another's perspective. The presentation follows his sabbatic semester during which he focused his creative writing on the general topic of "Writing and Healing."  The original poetry that he will share relies on narrative/storytelling. His poetry has evolved from traditional lyric to more narrative, which feels for him like an inevitable innovation.

Heart of a Woman
Interim Dean and Professor of Voice, Ivy Walz will perform Heart of a Woman by Florence Price. She will share brief comments on connections between women's suffrage and the poet and the composer.

Facilitation by Patty Zimmermann, Charles A. Dana Professor of Screen Studies
Organized and supported by the Center for Faculty Excellence
