Announcement of Associate Provost for Academic Programs and Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs

Sent on behalf of Melanie I. Stein, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs:

I am delighted to announce that Stacia Zabusky and Brendan Murday will be stepping into the roles of Associate Provost for Academic Programs and Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs, respectively, on July 1, 2022. Brendan and Stacia will join Christina Moylan, Associate Provost for Graduate and Professional Programs, and the four provosts will work together as a team, together with the provost’s office staff, to lead and support the Academic Affairs at Ithaca College

Stacia will bring a deep knowledge of the college curriculum, assessment strategies, and accreditation procedures to the role of associate provost for academic programs. A member of the Ithaca College community since 1995, and the current senior associate dean for curriculum and undergraduate programs in the School of Humanities and Sciences, Dr. Zabusky began her career as a faculty member in the Department of Anthropology, the same year her book Launching Europe: An Ethnography of Cooperation in European Space Science was published by Princeton University Press. Since becoming associate dean in 2006 she has expertly supported H&S department chairs and faculty in all curricular matters across a broad set of disciplines.  She has served on several all-college committees, including APC, the Provost’s Task Force on Revising the ICC, the All-College Academic Assessment Committee, and as Co-chair of the Ithaca Forever Action Group exploring a common schedule. From 2012-2020, she served as Chair of the Ithaca College All College Teacher Education Committee (ACTEC), during which time she developed robust and consistent administrative processes, created a culture of collaboration across schools, and led a network of campus and community stakeholders through a successful National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education self-study process and site visit. During the past academic year she has taken on a college leadership role, co-chairing the Curriculum Revision Liaison Committee with Associate Provost Jeane Copenhaver-Johnson, supporting and guiding schools and departments across the college as they undertake comprehensive curricular revision.

Brendan will bring experience in balancing support and development of both chairs and faculty with resource management, a clear understanding of employment and hiring issues, and a collaborative leadership style to the role of associate provost for faculty affairs. Brendan joined the IC community in 2006 as a faculty member in the Department of Philosophy and Religion, earning tenure in 2014. His course offerings have included introductory courses in philosophy and logic, Ithaca Seminars, and upper-level courses in metaphysics, epistemology, and philosophy of language. Brendan joined the H & S dean’s office in 2016 as associate dean, and in that capacity he has worked to support and mentor faculty through review processes, support department chairs with staffing planning and personnel issues, coordinate recruitment and yield events, and a range of other duties. He has brought clarity and efficiency to the complex processes of faulty staffing planning, position allocation, and load calculations, working with over twenty chairs of a diverse set of departments.  At the all-college level, he co-chaired with Nicole Eversley Bradwell a taskforce for re-envisioning the Admission application process in 2021, and has served on the Labor Management Committee since its inception in 2017 working with part-time and full-time temporary faculty.

Please join me in congratulating Brendan and Stacia; I am grateful for their willingness to take on new challenges and for the depth and breadth of experience they bring to the office of the provost.
