Need somewhere to unwind? Come check out our sensory friendly space!

By Brittany Watros, April 28, 2022

It’s almost time for JED’s Stop and Breathe Week here on campus and we are getting everything ready to offer a new temporary room in the Campus Center for individuals to decompress and take a moment to have a mindful experience.

The JED Campus Initiative is excited to announce that the Center for Health Promotion, the Occupational Therapy department and DEAR @IC, a student organization focused on educating the campus community about people with disabilities, have joined our planning team for this Sensory Space! This team is dedicated to making the campus more comfortable for everyone, including those who may have disabilities that may not be apparent to all.

Students on campus who may have anxiety, autism, ADHD, post-traumatic stress disorder, or other sensory challenges can find the resources and tools needed to decompress during such an overwhelming time at college.

All students are welcome to come unwind and see what this room has to offer.

JED, The Center for Health Promotion, the OT department, and DEAR@IC, are hoping to continue this initiative for years to come and make campus more sensory friendly. You’ve got this!
