Professor Kathleen Mulligan (Theatre Arts) has been awarded a Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Award for her project Preserving the Vanishing Stories of Partition. Mulligan will spend the spring of 2023 in Amritsar, India working with students at Khalsa College and SSSS College of Commerce for Women, devising original monologues based on interviews with survivors of the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947. This will be the completion of Mulligan’s project Voices of Partition that began in Pakistan in 2015 during her previous sabbatical. The resulting devised theatrical piece, Dagh Dagh Ujala (This Stained Dawn), toured to Ithaca College in the fall of 2015. Voices of Partition was funded by a grant from the Fulbright Specialist Program and a $95,000 grant from the United States Embassy in Islamabad.
