Sad News for our IC Community

By Reed Pollard, July 18, 2022

Dear Campus Community:

I am heartbroken to share that Katherine Goldstein, mother of Cassie Goldstein ’22, was among the seven people who were murdered during the mass shooting on July 4 in Highland Park, Ill.

I had the opportunity to speak with Cassie and to express, on behalf of the entire Ithaca College community, our deepest condolences on her loss.

Please join me in extending heartfelt sympathies to Cassie and the Goldstein family, their friends, classmates, and all who are affected by this senseless tragedy. I encourage you to read Cassie’s poignant reflections on her mother that were published in a recent opinion piece.

While many of us are spending this summer away from South Hill, our community of care extends far beyond its boundaries. I ask that we come together in solidarity, as the strong, resilient community we are, to do what we can to support each other and all those who have been traumatized by this terrible act of violence.

Many thanks to each of you for being part of the Ithaca College family. You are appreciated.

Sincerely,

La Jerne Terry Cornish
