Beware of fake job offer phishing attacks

College students are being targeted by fake job offer phishing attacks over email and text messages. Here are some clues to recognizing them:

· You randomly receive a direct email advertising a great job that you should apply for.

· They may offer great pay for very little work, for example: $430.00 dollars a week for 6 hours of work.

· They may request personal information from you right away, like name, address, cell phone number, date of birth.

· The sender’s email address and the address they ask you to reply to may not match.

· They may respond quickly to your response. Most actual employers take days or weeks to respond.

· If you respond to the email, they may switch over to text communication and ask for more personal information.

The IT Service Desk and Information Security team are available to answer any questions you might have or to look at messages that you’re unsure about.
