Cory Young, associate professor of Communication Management and Design, and Director of the Honors Program, guest lectured via Zoom at the Prem Tinsulanonda International School in Chiang Mai, Thailand, September 21, 2022.
Known as Prem, it the “1st authorized International Baccalaureate® (IB) World School in South East Asia to offer all 4 IB programmes to students ages 3 to 19.” It boasts an approach to learning which has “enquiry, critical-thinking and problem-solving at its heart; it also requires students to bring their heart to class. Curriculum content presents real-world global issues and students continually engage with subject matter that requires intercultural understanding.”
Samantha Dawkins, Curriculum Leader for Language Acquisition and English Acquisition Teacher, teaches a Grade 9 English Language and Literature course. Ajarn (professor) Samantha invited Dr. Young to give a short presentation as well as a Q and A session on her article published in Journal of Visual Literacy.
Arhlene Flowers, Professor in Integrated Marketing Communication, and Young co-authored “Parodying Palin: How Tina Fey’s Visual and Verbal Impersonations Revived a Comedy Show and Impacted the 2008 Election.” The students read this article as part of their unit on satire. Dr. Young gave an authentic summative task to the students to apply their analytical skills.
