We are entering the final week of our first two fall shows, BATIK FUTURISTE! by Toby Barnes and WELL WORN by Katarina Riesing. Both shows feature works created using a batik process, which employs the use of wax-resistant dye on fabric. While the artists share the use of this process in common, the works couldn’t be more different. Riesing’s show WELL WORN includes a suite of provocative works that are both intimate in scale and subject matter. Barnes’ show BATIK FUTURISTE! focuses on autobiographical themes through works that have a graphic sensibility inspired by contemporary and traditional Asian iconography, textiles, and spiritual practices.
