Director of Facilities Services, Eric Nichols, Leaving Ithaca College

By Timothy Downs, October 13, 2022

Dear College Community:

I am writing to let the campus community know that Eric Nichols, Director of Facilities Services, will be leaving the college on October 17. Eric has accepted a position at Cornell University, where he will serve as the Director of Facilities for the College of Human Ecology and Brooks School of Public Policy.

Eric is widely known across the campus thanks to his tireless and dedicated commitment to the college over the past 7 years.  Having worked here since November 2015, Eric and his team has ensured the campus has remained in top condition and serviced hundreds of events each year without issue.

Eric found his way to Ithaca College taking an unlikely path - starting his career in Athletics.  He worked his way up to assistant athletic director at Hartwick College before venturing out as the director of business development at a private company, PSP Unlimited.

Eric will be remembered for his development of the Facilities Services team.  Always putting the team first, Eric pushed to develop talent and promote from within.  Eric could also be found vacuuming floors or cleaning tables along with the 3rd shift.  Over the past 7 years, he also focused on the wellbeing of staff and campus colleagues – improving the safety of cleaning products used as well as implementing automated and ergonomic tools for the team.

A search for Eric’s replacement is underway.  Until the position is filled, Ernie McClatchie and Hana Holman will be stepping in to support the Facilities Services team.

We recognize and respect, value and admire Eric’s steadfast contributions to the IC community, most done quietly behind the scenes.  We are grateful for all he has done for the college for the past 7 years.

Please join me in congratulating Eric, and in wishing him continued success in the next phase of his career.
