Dr. Meghan Callahan will be making her first visit to campus as director of the Ithaca College London Center during the week of October 17. The Office of International Programs is excited to welcome her to campus. In celebration of her visit, we are inviting the campus community to meet her at one of several events.

LECTURE: UNDERGROUND LONDON

On Tuesday, October 18, at 6:00 pm in Textor 103, Dr. Callahan will be offering a lecture inspired by the class she is teaching at the London Center, Underground London.  From the syllabus: "This course examines the histories of hidden London lives in terms of both the physical and conceptual underground. Underground London is not just the Tube (though we will explore that too). It’s the series of physical and historic layers that have built up over time, from the Romans to the modern era, all creating the London that we live in (and on) today. The goal of this course is to have students question what it means to be underground, through examination of social history, archaeology, and art history. What do new archaeological discoveries reveal about the past? How have notions of what should be hidden and what can be revealed changed over time? What can we learn about ourselves and others when underground lives are brought to the surface?  By examining the past, we can learn about the present and consider how we might affect the future."

WELCOME RECEPTION

On Wednesday, October 19, from 4:00-6:00 pm in Clark Lounge (Campus Center), the campus community is invited to come meet Dr. Callahan at a Welcome Reception. She is looking forward to making connections with IC students, faculty, staff, and administrators, and to discussing future collaborations with the IC campus community.  Light refreshments will be served.
