Patricia Zimmermann, Charles A. Dana Professor of Screen Studies and Director of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, published an essay entitled “Only in Theaters” in Ideas and Futures in October.
Combining creative nonfiction and scholarly film industry historical analysis, the essay entwines the current massive changes in commercial and nonprofit film exhibition, disability rights, memoir about movie-going as a public act, and her mother’s life-long challenges with severe hearing impairment.
The essay also features a discussion about Gossa Tsegaye, Assistant Professor of Television/Radio, and his 40 +years of community media work chronicling Ithaca.
