Partnering with State Theatre on their strategic plan & community outreach

This spring, the Park School "Communicating with Stakeholders" course (STCM 31100) will be partnering with the State Theatre of Ithaca as they begin their strategic planning process leading up to their 100th anniversary.  Students will be able to engage directly with the executive director and members of the board who will periodically come to class, and you'll get hands-on opportunities to seek and refine input from their key constituencies.  The State Theatre is a historic, 1600-seat theatre listed on the National Register of Historic Places located just off the Commons that hosts various events including top musicians like the Indigo Girls, Ani Difranco and Wilco, dance performances, kids' shows, comedy acts, and films.

The course is especially useful to students who want to learn more about communicating effectively with employees, customers, donors, the press, and community partners.  In addition to the State Theatre partnership case, we'll cover leading trends such as employee experience (EX), customer experience (CX), legal reporting requirements for public companies on their environmental, governance, and sustainability practices, and effective government and community partnerships.  You'll network with leading professionals and alumni in media relations, government communications, investor relations, human resources, and fundraising to host them for Zoom or in-person interviews to learn about job opportunities and trends.

Although the course lists prerequisites of STCM 21100 or STCM 23200 or any 200-level course in FINA, SMGT, MGMT, or ACCT, Professor Gayeski is happy to consider waiving those prerequisites for students with a background (coursework, jobs or internships) in non-profit / arts management /events management.  If you're interested in learning more, please email her at gayeski@ithaca.edu
