Join Us for Addressing Antisemitism - Fighting Hate for Good Event on Tuesday, November 15

By Dan DeCaria, November 10, 2022

Dear Campus Community,

We share this message with you today to provide additional details and ask you to join us for a day of learning and fellowship in response to the recent acts of hate on our campus. As President La Jerne Terry Cornish communicated in her message to campus on Friday, November 4, Ithaca College will be hosting an event entitled, “Addressing Antisemitism: Fighting Hate for Good,” inside the James J. Whalen Center for Music on Tuesday, November 15. The event will begin at 12:15 p.m. with programming extending until 5:00 p.m.

Please note that these events are open to all members of our campus community. There will be five separate programs that will form the schedule for Tuesday’s event. These programs will include both presentations and interactive group discussions highlighting the origins of antisemitism and the ways it manifests in the world today. The event will conclude with a student discussion panel. Please note that all programs will be held within the Hockett Family Recital Hall inside the Whalen Center. Below is the full schedule:

12:15-12:45 PM | Who Are the Jews & What is a Swastika? Defining Our Terms
Presented by Lauren Goldberg, Executive Director of Ithaca College Hillel

1:00-2:00 PM | Antisemitism Uncovered: A Guide to Old Myths in a New Era
Presented by Rabbi Ron Fish, ADL Northeast Division Director of Antisemitism Advocacy and Education

2:15-3:15 PM | Decoding Antisemitism: An Interactive Exploration of Hate & Its Impact
Facilitated by Chris Sperry, Director of Curriculum and Staff Development – Project Look Sharp Ithaca College

3:20-3:50 PM | The Intersectionality of Antisemitism
Presented by Rebecca Lesses, Associate Professor, Department of Philosophy and Religion

4:00-5:00 PM | Facing Antisemitism, Racism and Prejudice Student Panel
Facilitated by Yasin Ahmed, Director of the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life

Whether you are able to join us for only a portion or able to attend the full series of events, we hope that you can make time in your schedule for this impactful program as we come together as a community to affirm that hate never has a home at Ithaca College.
