After nearly 23 years, Tim Ryan, Assistant Director of Environmental Health and Safety in the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management is planning to retire from Ithaca College on January 3rd, 2023.
Tim joined the Ithaca College community in October of 1999 as an Environmental Safety Technician. In June of 2001, he became the Environmental Safety Specialist and in July of 2007 Tim was promoted to Manager of Environmental Health and Safety to oversee all EH&S operations. In 2009, he became the Assistant Director of EH&S which reflected not only his leadership ability and high level of responsibility, but acknowledged the critical role he plays as a key member of the Public Safety and Emergency Management leadership team.
Tim's ability to plan, mitigate, respond, and keep a sharp focus on what would help keep the campus safe for more than two decades is deeply appreciated. His work ethic, dedication, leadership, and ability to engage with all sectors of the campus community and beyond will be missed. One thing that rises to the top when most people describe Tim is his ability to remain calm in tense situations, which was evident on a daily basis when Tim would stop what he was working on to respond to a fire, motor vehicle accident, chemical spill, natural gas leak, or whatever other type of emergency that he was called to.
In 2012, Tim commenced the AED committee and has overseen the campus wide AED program since that time. In addition, he was a key member of the COVID-19 Health and Safety Advisory Group, and for over two years was instrumental in the mitigation efforts to keep spread to a minimum, especially with frontline employees who were required to be fit tested and trained for partial/full respirators. In short, Tim served the needs of the Ithaca College community when he was needed, regardless of the time of day or day of the week.
