The NCAA formally recognizes four key institutional positions: the President, the Director of Athletics, the Senior Woman Administrator, and the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR). Clinical Professor and Associate Chair, Barb Belyea who is beginning the transition to retirement at the end of this academic year, is currently serving as the Ithaca College FAR. Barb Belyea has and continues to serve in this role with distinction.
We are now seeking nominations (including self-nominations) of individuals interested in serving in this capacity, effective July 1, 2023. The NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative must be a tenured faculty member or senior ongoing NTEN. President Cornish will make the appointment. The term of the appointment is for four years, with the possibility of a second four-year appointment.
The key responsibilities for this position are:
Assists in ensuring the academic integrity of the athletics program
Assists in ensuring institutional control of the athletics program
Works with the director of athletics and other administrators to enhance student experience
Advocates on behalf of student-athletes to ensure their well-being
Helps to facilitate student-athletes academic work
Works with the associate athletic director to ensure NCAA compliance and eligibility
Nominates student-athletes for awards and scholarships
