Event: The Mime Approach to Problem Solving  Please register in Engage in advance
Tuesday 12:10pm to 1pm in Ithaca Falls Room, Campus Center Sponsor: Student Leadership Institute
About: In this session, you will learn about some principles used in mime performance and how they can be applied to your work and daily life. The presentation will stress the positive effects that imagination can have on a person's emotional health. The metaphor of "be like mimes" will run through the presentation as we draw similarities between how mimes solve problems in sketches and how we might solve problems in our daily lives, i.e. mimes get outside, they follow a three-step decision-making protocol, and they respect each other's pursuit of creative solutions.

Event: Women Leaders Series: Food & Wellbeing: Being Mindful about our Guts Please register in Engage in advance
Tuesday 1pm to 2pm in Taughannock Falls Room, Campus Center
Sponsor: Student Leadership Institute and HPPE
About: Recent research indicates that the microbes on and in our bodies impact our overall health and well-being. The food we eat and our behaviors feed and impact our microbial residents. Food choices, stress, and exercise create environments within our bodies that favor some organisms over others. Research shows us that we can promote growth of “good microbes” by including healthy diverse food options into our diets, reducing stress, and increasing exercise. In this presentation Kari Brossard Stoos will interpret recent research on healthy microbiota and the foods and behaviors that promote them. Integrating this knowledge into our daily life can be challenging as we struggle with motivation and self-judgement. Mary Ann Erickson will show how self-compassion can both help us implement healthier eating habits and be kinder to ourselves and others.  Presented by Kari Brossard Stoos, Associate Professor and Associate Department Chair, Health Promotion and Physical Education and Mary Ann Erickson, Associate Professor, Health Promotion and Physical Education
