NBC Sports' Editorial & Summer Olympics: Open Session & Interviews

Work for NBC Sports

On Monday, April 3, Park School alum Brandon Glass ’15 and his colleagues from NBC Sports’ Editorial Division will be hosting a general session to discuss opportunities within their organization including possible positions for the Paris 2024 Olympics.  This session will be from 5:30-6:30pm in the Park Auditorium and is open to all students.

This session is meant to inform students, about what steps they can take to best prepare to work in the industry of sports media, specifically in editorial.  This is a wonderful opportunity to ask questions to communications and sports media professionals who understand what it is like trying to break into this highly sought-after field.

All day on Tuesday, April 4,  members of NBC Sports’ editorial team will be interviewing students for positions they are looking to fill within the next year.  They are looking for strong writers with journalism and communications backgrounds to contribute to the storytelling work they do in their various properties, including the Olympics and Paralympics, NFL, Premier League and B1G football. Their editorial team includes roles in research, digital content and TV writing. Below are examples of the positions they will be hiring for in the next year:

  • Olympic and Paralympic Games-Time researcher – this team closely follows sports and results during the Games to identify storytelling moments and communicate information to our production teams
  • Olympic and Paralympic Games-Time writer – the writers will create copy for the scripts of our live studio shows during the Games, including leads, tags, transition segments, feature segments, etc.
  • Olympic Games-Time statistician – statisticians will closely monitor statistics, numbers, scenarios and other relevant notes for specific sports during our Olympics coverage
  • Sports researcher – these individuals will regularly contribute to the storytelling process for our various properties (including but not limited to Olympics, B1G football, NFL, Premier League, golf, horse racing, MLB, etc.) by compiling packets of information with athlete notes and storylines and supporting broadcast teams during live sporting events
  • Digital writer or content editor– our digital team covers all of NBC Sports’ properties on NBCSports.com, including our women’s sports-focused site On Her Turf and our fantasy and betting site Rotoworld
  • Ticker researcher – these researchers are responsible for writing the content that runs on the ticker during our coverage, using editorial judgment and storytelling skills to add context to the sports we are televising and to promote upcoming events
