Performing new solo violin works by Ithaca College composition students, along with U.S. premieres of works by Gloria Coates, Roger Redgate, and Hafliði Hallgrímsson.

2023 High School Gospel Music Invitational Festival
8:00pm | Ford Hall | *note uncommon start time
Directed by Baruch Whitehead, the biennial concert event will feature the Ithaca College Choir and Symphony Orchestra, guest clinician Maestra D'Walla Simmons-Burke of Winston-Salem State University, guest soloist Krista Overby of Laurel, Mississippi, and gospel choirs from schools in Baltimore, Boston, Washington, D.C., and upstate New York. Ithaca College's Amani Gospel Singers will open the program, and Stan Spottswood will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

SATURDAY, APRIL 1

The Manley and Doriseve Thaler Vocal Concert Series:
Lawrence Brownlee, tenor

"One of the most in-demand opera singers in the world today" (NPR), tenor Lawrence Brownlee comes to Ithaca to perform "Rising", his new recital program of songs set to poems of the Harlem Renaissance. One half of the concert consists entirely of new music by Black American composers commissioned specifically for the “Rising” project. The other half features art song cycles by Margaret Bonds, Jeremiah Evans, and Robert Owens.

Brownlee will also give a master class at 7:00pm on Friday, March 31 in Hockett Family Recital Hall. The concert and master class are both Free and open to the public.
