The 2023 Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF) hosts screenings downtown at Cinemapolis, the only art cinema serving a 100 miles radius around Ithaca.
The 26th Annual FLEFF runs from March 20-April 9. Most of these films run on the weekends, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
Featuring 28 films and events and over 46 screenings, the slate includes fiction, documentary, hybrid, and experimental works from the Ukraine, Netherlands, Iran, France, Germany, Mexico, Chile, Mali, Senegal, Serbia, Hong Kong, China, Tibet, Austria, Colombia, Philippines, Cambodia, South Africa and more.
Many of the films will have intros by scholars, activists, journalists, and artists; others will feature post-screening discussion and talkbacks.

Visiting filmmakers for the films at Cinemapolis include Ry Ferro (IC alum with the East Coast premiere of her feature), Matt Podolsky (IC alum, via Zoom), Queline Meadows (IC alum), Jeffrey Palmer (Kiowa) Yi Cui (China/US), and Greg Palast (investigative journalist). Most filmmaker shows are FREE except for Ry Ferro with MOVE WHEN THE SPIRIT SAYS MOVE.
The program includes three silent films with live music, celebrating the 100th year anniversary of each film:
SAFETY LAST (1923)
with live music by Zydeco band L'il Anne and Hot Cayenne
WARNING SHADOWS (1923)
with live music by experimental soundscape musicians Cloud Chamber Orchestra
THE EXTRA GIRL (1923)
with live music by Americana music band Common Railers.
