Mary is an alumna of the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in Speech-Language Pathology at IC, and has served the department in many roles since 2002. Among her many contributions include numerous leadership roles, and she has at various times served as graduate chair and co-chair, assistant chair, and fieldwork coordinator. She has presented and published extensively on her scholarly work in the area of voice, including work on vocal cord dysfunction secondary to exercise and most recently on gender-affirming voice care.
Mary has in recent years been part of a highly successful team of researchers from the Cornell Weill School of Medicine working on gender affirming voice care, which has received two grants and published a series of articles, the most recent of which was awarded special recognition as the most downloaded article of 2022 in the journal Laryngoscope. Their most recent grant from the Dalio Center for Health Justice was awarded just this April, in the amount of $100,000, so Mary will be continuing this important work post-retirement.
Mary’s contributions to the department and to Ithaca College are legion, and she will be a very tough act to follow. Her skill in class and clinic have guided the development of speech-language pathology graduates for many years, and we are beyond grateful and lucky to have had her as a colleague. We are sad to lose her wisdom and her dedication, but we wish her all the best as she embarks on new adventures.
