The Ithacan was named the Corbin Gwaltney Award for Best All-Around Student Newspaper (Small) in the Society of Professional Journalists' Region 1 Mark of Excellence Awards 2022.
Sophomore Lorien Tyne also won the In-Depth Reporting (Small) category for her piece "Title IX failures reveal systemic flaws in policy."
Senior Aidan Charde was named a finalist in the Sports Writing (Small) category for his story "Transgender student finds a community with men’s rugby."
SPJ's Region 1 consists of organizations based in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Central and Eastern Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.
Region 1 winners will compete in the national competition among all 12 regions.
