This past weekend, VIC Radio hosted its 36th annual 50 Hour Marathon in support of Advocacy Center of Tompkins County. VIC DJ's Andy Tell '23, Clare Breakell '23, Carly Vallet '23 and Aidan Charde '23 stayed awake and on the air fifty straight hours playing their favorite indie-alternative tracks. The Marathon started Friday, April 21st at 4:00 PM and concluded Sunday, April 23rd at 6:00 PM. It streamed live on VICRadio.org and was simulcast on WICB and ICTV.
VIC exceeded its goal and raised a total of $4,026 for the Advocacy Center. Click here for the list of sponsors who supported a full hour during the Marathon. VIC is thankful for everyone who donated, tuned in and supported the station's efforts. The Marathon was organized by Keenan Griebel '24, VIC's 50 Hour Marathon Coordinator.
The station's fundraising for Advocacy Center started with VIC's Virtual Fall Benefit Concert this past November. You can rewatch the concert here. The concert included performances from Bibi Club, Microbes Mostly, Jacob Faurholt, D.K. Lyons and Ed Staal.
The 50 Hour Marathon is a weekend-long fundraising effort that benefits a local non-profit organization. The annual event was first held in 1986. Click here for more information about the Marathon's history.
More information about The Advocacy Center of Tompkins County: The Advocacy Center is the only provider of Domestic and Sexual Violence services in Tompkins County, NY. While the agency has grown, expanded services, and adapted to the ever-changing needs of survivors and the community over the years, they remain committed to the core philosophy of providing compassionate, trauma-informed, survivor-focused services and education with roots in feminism and the grassroots battered women’s movement of the 1970s. Today the agency has expanded to provide not only domestic violence services but also services to youth and adult survivors of child sexual abuse, adult sexual assault, and rape. This is a long and proud history, and they owe so much to the dedication of their volunteers, staff, and local community and also to the inspiration provided by the stories and strength of survivors. The Advocacy Center continues to work toward a community where all are free from violence in their homes, relationships, and life.
