More than 50 years after he came to Ithaca from Ethiopia and more than 30 years after he began "teaching and preaching" at Ithaca College, Gossa Tsegaye is retiring.
An assistant professor in Media Arts, Sciences and Studies, Gossa has taught a generation of TVR students as professor, mentor and friend.
A filmmaker with 75 documentaries to his credit, Gossa's scholarship has spotlighted marginalized communities in upstate New York, including migrant workers in King Ferry, (Smile in the Wind), residents of a rural street (Dream Street on Buffalo Hill) and homeless on Ithaca's west side (The Jungle’s Edge).
Never shy in class or in front of a microphone, here is Gossa in his own words after receiving the college's Faculty Excellence Award.
Please join Gossa from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, in Studio A in the Park School of Communications. Refreshments will be served.
