This performance will take place on Sunday, June 11, at 4 p.m. in Hoerner Theatre at Dillingham Center.
Operatic singers auditioned from around the globe to participate in IC Opera Studio where they were staged in scenes guided by directors earning a professional certificate from the IC Opera Direction Program. The participating directors have been working since January with stage director Chuck Hudson, while the singers have been working with musical director Christopher Zemliauskas, along with conductors and acting coaches.
The showcase will feature the following four 20-minute scenes, selected across their complete story arcs:
- Francis Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites
- Joseph Boulogne’s L’Amant Anonyme
- Gioachino Rossini’s Semiramide
- Ethel Smyth’s Les Naufrageurs
This approach permits each director to generate and explore their specific staging concept, thematic focus, and dramatic arcs of character as though they were staging the complete opera. This performance before a live audience is the final element in their work.
