Patricia Zimmermann, Charles A. Dana Professor of Screen Studies, and Dale Hudson, Associate Professor of Screen and New Media, New York University Abu Dhabi, have published an essay in the new book, Screening American Independent Film, edited by Justin Wyatt and W. D. Phillips (Routledge, 2023).
Their essay entitled "The Great Flood (2012)" analyzes the Bill Morrison compilation film of the same name. Through newsreels, home movies, and government films, the film chronicles what has been called the "The Great Flood" of 1927, one of the worst environmental disasters in US history. It also propelled the Great Migration of African Americans north to Chicago, which the film also explores.
