Following the retirement of Barb Belyea '82, the Ithaca College Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that Margaret Shackell will now serve as the NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
"I am looking forward to working with Dr. Shackell in this important role for athletics," said Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Susan Bassett '79. "I know we can build on all that Barb Belyea established and Wenmouth Williams before her. We are committed to the scholar-athlete ideal and Dr. Shackell's knowledge and passion for athletics will serve our students well. I am grateful for her willingness to serve"
In this role, Shackell will serve as a liaison between the institution and the athletics department, and as a representative of the institution in conference and NCAA affairs. The role of the FAR is to ensure that the academic institution establishes and maintains the appropriate balance between academics and intercollegiate athletics.
Shackell will also work with the department to host the annual scholar-athlete luncheon, which occurs during the spring semesters for junior and senior student-athletes who have obtained a 3.75 GPA or higher over five-plus semesters.
"I am excited to continue to develop the partnership between the faculty and athletics to benefit student-athletes, other students, and the whole Ithaca College community," Shackell said.

She has published in peer-reviewed outlets including Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance, Strategic Management Journal, Financial Management (FM) Magazine, Strategic Finance, and the IMA Educational Case Journal.
