Dear Ithaca College Faculty,
We hope this message finds you well. As we all share a commitment to maintaining the academic integrity of Ithaca College, we want to provide you with an update regarding the Academic Misconduct Process outlined in the Student Conduct Code section 7.1.2.6 Academic Misconduct Hearings. By adhering to these guidelines, we hope to ensure fair and consistent treatment of all cases related to academic misconduct.
The Academic Misconduct Process was updated at the end of the spring 2023 academic year to better support our students and faculty while continuing to uphold the principles of honesty, responsibility, and fairness in our academic community. Please familiarize yourself with the following process, which can also be found on our Student Conduct website.
1. Initial Response: If you suspect academic misconduct, gather information and approach the student in a non-confrontational manner. Discuss your concerns and allow the student to provide their perspective.
2. Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of the incident, including any relevant communications, assignments, or assessments related to the alleged misconduct. This documentation will be important throughout the process.
3. Report the Incident: If, based on your discussion with the student, you believe that a violation of the Student Conduct Code and/or the Standards of Academic Conduct has occurred, submit a report detailing the incident using this online reporting form available on the Student Conduct website. Include all relevant information and evidence.
The submitted report will be reviewed by the Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards and the Assistant Director of Student Conduct (or designee) will schedule a meeting with the student to discuss the allegations. This meeting will proceed in accordance with the “Administrative Hearing Procedure” under section 7.1.2.4.1 of the Student Conduct Code.
Following an Administrative Hearing meeting, faculty may be contacted for additional information or to participate in an academic misconduct board, should the student request a board. Faculty are encouraged to participate in these procedures in order to ensure that all information is available and to answer questions that may arise throughout the process.
Your commitment to upholding academic integrity is greatly appreciated. By following this process, we can maintain a fair and just academic environment for all students and ensure the values of Ithaca College are upheld.
