Academic Misconduct Process Guidelines for Students

Dear Ithaca College Students,

We hope this message finds you well. As we all share a commitment to maintaining the academic integrity of Ithaca College, we want to provide you with an update regarding the Academic Misconduct Process outlined in the Student Conduct Code section 7.1.2.6 Academic Misconduct Hearings. By adhering to these guidelines, we hope to ensure fair and consistent treatment of all cases related to academic misconduct.

The Academic Misconduct Process was updated at the end of the spring 2023 academic year to better support our students and faculty while continuing to uphold the principles of honesty, responsibility, and fairness in our academic community.  For more information regarding this process, please visit the Student Conduct website for specific details on the process and resources for support.

When a faculty member suspects that an academic dishonesty violation has occurred, they will initially reach out to meet with the student to discuss.  Following that meeting, the faculty may report the incident to the Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards.  All submitted reports will be reviewed by the Assistant Director of Student Conduct (or designee), who will schedule a meeting with the student to discuss the allegations. This meeting will proceed in accordance with the “Administrative Hearing Procedure” under section 7.1.2.4.1 of the Student Conduct Code.

Following an Administrative Hearing meeting, students may be found responsible or not responsible. If found responsible, students have the opportunity to request that their case be heard by a Conduct Review Board (per the procedures outlined in the Student Conduct Code). Faculty will be encouraged to participate in these procedures in order to ensure that all information is available and to answer questions that may arise throughout the process.

Your commitment to upholding academic integrity is greatly appreciated. By following this process, we can maintain a fair and just academic environment for all students and ensure the values of Ithaca College are upheld.
