Namgyal Monastery Institute of Buddhist Studies, a Tibetan Buddhist monastery just up the hill from Ithaca College, is holding the Grand Opening Ceremony for His Holiness the Great XIV Dalai Lama Library and Learning Center (HHDL LLC) on Friday, September 8, 2023. The newly completed HHDL LLC, construction of which began in April 2022, is primarily dedicated to preserving the teachings of the current Dalai Lama. It promises to make Ithaca, New York the premier site in North America to study about the XIV Dalai Lama, including his efforts to promote world peace and foster dialogue between Buddhist thought and modern science.
This event is free and open to the public. Opening ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. Lunch will follow at 1 p.m., after which there will be Tibetan cultural programming starting at 3 p.m. Parking is available on site at 201 Tibet Drive.
Following this event, a two-day Interfaith and Secular Ethics Conference will be held at the monastery. Links to register for this free conference, as well as a livestream, can be found here.
