INTERNATIONAL FACULTY AND STAFF TRAVEL WITH STUDENTS

Any faculty or staff member planning international travel with students must work with the Office of International Programs.  All international travel with students must be fully vetted by the College. Faculty and staff must:

Whether you are proposing a new international travel experience, or one that has been previously offered, you must follow the same process each time the experience is offered.

Faculty and staff with international travel plans not including students do not need to work with International Programs, but must register their travel in the International Travel Registry and should consult the Travel Services website.

SHORT-TERM FACULTY/STAFF-LED STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMS

These programs include credit-bearing or zero-credit courses taught abroad, typically during the winter or summer sessions, or during semester breaks. They may be freestanding courses, or international experiences tied to on-campus courses. These programs require intensive vetting by the College, and therefore proposals must be received approximately 12 months prior to planned travel.

  • For winter break programs: submit proposals by January 31 of the year preceding travel (for example, by January 31, 2024 for Winter 2025 programs).
  • For spring break programs: submit proposals by February 15 of the year preceding travel.
  • For summer programs: submit proposals by May 31 of the year preceding travel.
  • Contact International Programs (studyabroad@ithaca.edu, 4-3306) for guidance if your planned travel falls at a different time.

OTHER INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL INVOLVING STUDENTS

These experiences include, but are not limited to, conferences, research or field experience abroad, sports team travel, musical ensemble travel, religious community travel, and Student Affairs and Campus Life-sponsored travel.

  • For international travel experiences of 5 days or fewer, submit proposal 3 months prior to planned travel.
  • For international travel experiences greater than 5 days, submit proposal 6 months prior to planned travel.

Note that certain destinations or activities may require more intensive review, and therefore faculty and staff are encouraged to alert International Programs to potential travel plans as far in advance as possible.
