We are students in the Undergraduate Psychology Research Team DEP. The name of our study is “Mental Health Awareness on Campus”.  If you decide to participate, you will be asked to complete a 10-15 minute online survey. This study is being conducted by Dr. Judith Pena-Shaff, Professor of Psychology at Ithaca College and her undergraduate students. If you have any questions about this survey, you can contact Dr. Pena-Shaff at jpenaper@ithaca.edu

In appreciation for your participation, you will have the option to enter a raffle for a $30 Visa gift card. This study takes 10 to 15 minutes, and you must be at least 18 years old to participate.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY:

The purpose of this study is to examine Ithaca College students’ beliefs, knowledge, and utilization of mental health services on campus. We are also interested in students’ perceptions of, and potential barriers to, seeking help for mental health struggles. Participants also can suggest recommendations to improve awareness and access to mental health resources on Ithaca College’s campus. The survey includes questions about mental health, mental health treatment, and your knowledge about institutional mental health resources. You will also answer questions about your background (e.g., age, gender), and experiences with racism such as whether you have ever felt you were treated unfairly by teachers/professors because of your race or ethnic group. This survey should take between 10 to 15 minutes to complete.

ELIGIBILITY TO PARTICIPATE:
You may participate in this survey if:
— You are between the age of 18-24 years of age.
— You are a student at Ithaca College.

RISKS

The possible risks of completing this survey could include anxiety and stress. Some of the questions address discrimination, mental health issues, and negative personal experiences. You can withdraw from the study at any time if any distress is experienced. The survey is anonymous, which means we will not ask questions that can be used to identify you. If you experience any emotional distress from your participation in the study, please inform Dr. Pena-Shaff and contact the Ithaca College’s Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). Besides CAPS, Ithaca College will not pay for any care, lost wages, or other financial compensation for injury or emotional distress.
