On October 20, 2023, Carlos Figueroa, Ph.D. (Politics Department), lectured on Quaker social activist and political commentator Bayard T. Rustin at the Woodbrooke Quaker Studies Centre as part of their lecture series themes, History and Theology & Peace and Social Justice. The lecture was related to his two chapters, "The Political Activist Life of Pragmatic Quaker: Bayard T. Rustin" and "Bayard T. Rustin: The Faith of a Conscientious Objector in the 1940s," recently published in The Quaker World (Routledge Press, 2023), C. Wess Daniels and Rhiannon Grant, Editors. The book is available in the Gannett Center library.
The Woodbrooke Quaker Studies Centre was "originally founded in 1903 by George Cadbury and John Wilhelm Rowntree as a centre for Quaker learning. Woodbrooke continues to support the learning and growth of thousands of people and equip them to play their part in their communities and the world."
"Woodbrooke has been offering courses and programmes of learning for over 115 years. People from many different walks of life have found themselves drawn to the learning that we offer in a broad range of subjects. Some of our learning is focused on supporting Quakers in building and maintaining a healthy community. Much of our learning is about individuals finding different ways of exploring their own spiritual path."
