The Handwerker will reopen October 26th with two new exhibitions: METAMORPHOSIS, EMBODIED, a solo exhibition by WANG Chen and PRIME, a solo exhibition by Joan Linder. Both shows will remain on view through December 7th, 2023 and include visiting artist talks that are free and open to the public. To mark the occasion, Thursday night we will host a reception with both the artists present from 5 - 6:30pm. Additionally, WANG Chen will offer the first artist talk from this set of exhibitions at 1:15 in Ceracche Center, room G126 also on Thursday October 26th.
Joan Linder and WANG Chen shows open at Handwerker Gallery

Joan Linder is known for finding inspiration from her immediate surroundings, often in quotidian subjects. Her conceptual and observational works on paper have been included in national and international exhibitions at venues such as Museum of Fine Ars Boston, The Buffalo AKG Museum and the Davis Museum. Her work has been written about in Art News, Art in America, the New York Times and Hyperallergic among others. She has created permanent public art commissions for Metropolitan Transit Authority, and PS97 through Public Art for Public Schools in NYC and the University at Buffalo SUNY. She has received numerous grants and fellowships from organizations such as the Pollock Krasner Foundation, Yaddo and MacDowell. Linder is a Professor of Art at the University at Buffalo, SUNY and is represented by Cristin Tierney Galley in NYC.
WANG Chen has exhibited nationally and internationally, including at Fotografiska Museum in Stockholm, Sweden, Roswell Museum, New Mexico, Lauren Powell Project, Los Angeles, The Immigrant Artist Biennial, NYC, Alfred University, NY, and Crosstown Art Center in Memphis. WANG’s fellowships, awards, and residencies include New York Foundation for the Arts Artist Fellow (Interdisciplinary), MacDowell Fellowship, Benedetti Fellowship at MCLA, Vermont Studio Center, NARS Artist Foundation in Brooklyn, and Roswell Artists in Residency. WANG Chen received a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University and an MFA in Photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
