To Our Campus Community,
I write this message today to share that Yasin Ahmed, Director for the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, has made the personal decision to resign from his role at the college and will be leaving Ithaca College effective immediately.
Yasin expressed that this decision to step away came after much personal reflection and will offer the opportunity to pursue a larger calling. He shared:
“I’m called to develop the, ‘beloved community,’ but this will require my full-time attention. After much reflection, I have decided to step away from my role at IC, an experience for which I am immensely grateful, in order to pursue the creation of a loving national community, a dream that has eluded us for too long.”
I know Yasin’s incredible kindness, support and dedicated pastoral care have touched the lives of many members of our community and his departure will be difficult to bear. I would like to thank Yasin for all he has done to foster a culture of finding meaning in our shared human experience and building bridges across the diverse fabric of religious, spiritual and secular worldviews that make up our campus community.
As we look to the future of what this will mean for Ithaca College, we anticipate sharing an update with the campus community in the coming weeks that will outline our plan for filling the vacant Director of Religious and Spiritual Life position. In the meantime, please contact me (Luca Maurer) directly at lmaurer@ithaca.edu for any questions, concerns or needed support for which you would have typically contacted Yasin.
Please join me in wishing Yasin the very best in his next pursuits.
Thank you,
Luca Maurer
