In collaboration with First Generation Center during First Gen Week, this month’s Café Con La Directora welcomes speaker Kakwireosta Hall who will be discussing “How does one maintain and understand their identity in the midst of the chaos?”
Academic institutions can be so foreign for BIPOC and First Generation students, while being expected to do class work, find sense of belonging, and yet move forward etc. Colonization runs deep…Kakwireiosta Hall will share parts of their experience and steps they’ve taken to try to maintain their own identities while navigating spaces.
Café Con la Directora is an event hosted by the BIPOC Unity Center Director Angélica Carrington that offers an opportunity for students to learn about culturally identity-based student organizations, resources, and how to create a culturally validating space at IC.
