Are you interested in teaching a Slow Read next academic year? Slow Reads have become one of the signature features of the H&S curriculum - variable credit, block or semester courses that typically meet once a week to work through a significant text. In Spring 2024 six amazing Slow Reads, covering everything from Middlemarch to a papal encyclical to Classical Chinese philosophical texts, have quickly filled with curious, engaged students. Many faculty report that facilitating a Slow Read is a joy that revives their motivation to be a professor. All faculty are welcome. You need not teach a text centered in your discipline (though, of course, you can) and we encourage creativity. I the past we have had Slow Views of artwork and Slow Listens to musical compositions. If this sounds interesting please save the date and join us on Tuesday, December 5th, from 12:00-1:00 in Job 312. We'll share ideas, encourage each other, and have a cookie or two.
If you can't make it on December 5th, please feel free to reach out to me, Bob Sullivan (rsulliva@ithaca.edu), and I'll be happy to have conversation with you about this exciting initiative. And remember, if it's worth reading it's worth reading slowly.
