Few people are trained to see how historical, political, and cultural forces collide to influence human behavior
Sociology give people a lens for analyzing the self and society from a bird’s eye view
In this intensive 3-week course you will learn to cultivate your sociological imagination—the ability to see how public issues shape individual or seemingly “private” experiences.
Using online discussion, interactive video posts, quizzes, and reflective writing, our goal is to accomplish the following:
- Identify and practice applying key sociological concepts
- Examine how individual choice is enabled and constrained by power
- Identify how various inequalities are reproduced in everyday life
- Draft a plan for how you can contribute to positive social change at the individual and structural levels
