Support Survivors of Domestic and Sexual Abuse in Kerala India

Students in the Center for Theatre and Dance will join together on Saturday, February 3rd for the 13th Annual Wheels for Women Cabaret. Our theme for this year's cabaret is JOY! Wheels for Women is an organization born out of professor Kathleen Mulligan's Fulbright project in Kerala, India in 2010. Wheels for Women partners with the Sakhi Shelter for survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and the sex trade in the city of Ernakulum. Funds raised by the students support job training for shelter residents, helping them to move towards financial independence and away from their abusers. The organization also contributes to the goal of building a permanent home for the shelter-- a refuge for women and their children.

This year is our 13th anniversary! To date, Wheels for Women has raised over $60,000 for the Sakhi Shelter, and trained over 25 women as auto-rickshaw (taxi) drivers. This incredible success is the result of the efforts of many Theatre Arts students and alumni of Ithaca College,  as well as friends from Hope Summer Repertory Theatre in Holland, MI.

Our cabaret this year will feature performances in music, poetry, and dance.  There will be raffles for theatre tickets, hand made knitted apparel, and a beautiful hand embroidered shawl from Amritsar, India (where Kathleen spent her most recent sabbatical in 2023.) The famous auction for homemade pie will once again be held!  Please join us on Saturday, February 3th at 7PM EST in the Clark Theatre, Dillingham Center. Suggested donation for admission: $10.00 ($5.00 for students.) For those who cannot attend in person, a link to a recording of the event will be available following the event. You can reserve tickets now and make a donation at https://givebutter.com/yTZAMZ
