We are pleased to announce that Omar Stoute ‘18, has accepted the position of Director for Staff Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging in the Center for Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging and will begin in this inaugural position on January 16, 2024. As was announced last spring by President Cornish, the Center for Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging has been established to help advance the College’s Ithaca Forever strategic plan goal of becoming a national model for colleges committed to the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Omar will join Luca Maurer, Executive Director for Student Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging and Dr. Belisa González, Dean for Faculty Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, as the third member of the Center’s leadership team.
Omar is a 2018 graduate of the Park School of Communications and began his professional career at Ithaca College working as a project coordinator for the Honors Program and the Center for Civic Engagement before serving as Deputy Title IX Coordinator for two years, leading the college’s sexual violence prevention efforts. During the peak of the pandemic, Omar streamlined the college’s prevention efforts, designing institution-wide prevention mechanisms. Omar is currently serving as an Equity and Title IX Investigator at Cornell University where he leads initiatives to establish an institutional compliance framework by forging strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, Omar serves as the vice-chair of Family and Children’s Service of Ithaca’s Board of Directors, playing a pivotal role in shaping the agency’s equity and inclusion strategic plan.
Grounded in the principles of cultural humility, Omar is poised to contribute to the development of an inclusive, equitable, and respectful community at Ithaca College. He is a passionate advocate for equity, a catalyst for social change, and is committed to leveraging his skills and experiences to foster equity throughout the Ithaca College community.
