Reminder: OneDrive Backup to be Enabled on Individually Assigned Enabled IC Computers

Starting March 26th, the Desktop and Documents folders on individually assigned IC Windows and macOS computers will automatically be backed up to your individual IC OneDrive account. On Windows the Pictures folder will also be backed up.

OneDrive backup will ensure that you don’t lose files in those folders in the case of a hardware failure or loss, ransomware, or accidental deletion. It will also provide you with access to your files from any computer, and it streamlines the tech-renewal process when you are issued a new computer. Only these folders on individually assigned computers, and not shared computers such as those in classrooms or labs, will be included.

If you have any personal, non-IC files in these folders and do not want them backed up, you will need to remove them from these three folders (Documents, Desktop, Pictures) prior to March 26th. We recommend not storing private personal files unrelated to the college on IC computers.

How does this impact me?

For Windows Users

  • Automatic Login - Upon signing into your computer, you will automatically be logged in to OneDrive.
  • OneDrive - Ithaca College Folder - If you have not previously used OneDrive, you will now see a OneDrive – Ithaca College folder appear in File Explorer.
  • Automatic Folder Backup - With the OneDrive Backup enabled, files saved to your Desktop, Documents, and Pictures folders will automatically be backed up to your OneDrive account.
  • You will be able to access files saved to your Desktop, Documents, and Pictures folders by logging into OneDrive on any device.

For Mac Users

  • Prompt to Login - Upon signing into your computer, you will be prompted to log in to OneDrive.
  • OneDrive - Ithaca College Folder - If you have not previously used OneDrive, you will now see a OneDrive – Ithaca College folder appear in Finder.
  • OneDrive Dock Icon - A OneDrive icon will automatically appear in the dock and can be used to quickly access your OneDrive files.
  • Automatic Folder Backup - With the OneDrive Backup enabled, files saved to your Desktop and Documents folders will automatically be backed up to your OneDrive account.
  • You will be able to access files saved to your Desktop and Documents folders by logging into OneDrive on any device,

Classroom and Lab Computers

OneDrive Backup will not be enabled on classroom or lab computers. If you wish to access your files from a lab or classroom computer visit apps.ithaca.edu and click the OneDrive icon to login.
