Showcase work you’re already doing for class!

James J. Whalen College-wide Academic Symposium
Thursday, April 11, 2024 | 8:30 am–4:00 pm – Campus Center

Submit your 250-500-word project summary (“abstract”) using the Online Submission Form by Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 5 p.m. If you would like to be considered for an award, your project summary must be between 500 and 700 words. (Note: The abstract submission form will remain open until Thursday, March 14, for students who do not want their presentation to be considered for an award.) Once you submit the form, you will receive an email detailing your next steps.

Choose whether to present a poster, give an oral presentation, or showcase your creative work.

Creative works include:

  • Live Performance (Music, Theatre, Dance, etc.):
  • Solo Performances
  • Chamber Ensembles
  • Original Compositions
  • Original Monologue or Scene Performances
  • Analysis and Performance of a Scene or Monologue
  • Solo Dance Performances
  • Original Dance Ensemble Performance
  • Works of Visual and Media Art:
  • Film
  • Photography
  • Paintings
  • Sculpture
  • Costume and Set Design

  5. Apply for an award! Winners receive a gift certificate to the Ithaca College Bookstore.

NEW:

HIGHLIGHTING ENERGY & SUSTAINABILITY RESEARCH AND CREATIVITY

The cross-disciplinary energy and sustainability work that IC students are increasingly participating will now be highlighted through the Whalen Symposium. These projects help Ithaca College and Upstate New York communities to address the complex challenges associated with climate change. Separate awards will be presented based on the “sustainability” category. To participate and be considered for this category, students from any school may select “sustainability” as their School when completing the Whalen Abstract Submission Form.

DIGITAL POSTERS CAN NOW BE PRESENTED
A limited number of digital poster presentations will be accepted. Please select “digital poster” as your option in presentation type when completing the Whalen Abstract Submission Form. Those who selected digital will be instructed to save their posters as a PDF and bring them to them symposium on a flash drive that has been formatted for Windows computers.
