Literatures in English Professor Kasia Bartoszynska was invited to deliver a paper at the "Modeling Change" Symposium at the University of California Berkeley. The symposium brought together scholars from the US, Australia, and France to discuss theories and practices for modeling and understanding processes of change over history in the fields of linguistics, urban planning, literary history, and others.
Professor Bartoszynska's paper concerned the form of narration most associated with the rise of the novel: Free Indirect Discourse. She argued that the historical ways of defining FID and its effects have skewed our understanding of its development as a narrative voice.
