Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend an open meeting with Dr. Ryan Hartnett, Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) Vice President of Institutional Field Relations and IC’s staff liaison, on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. The meeting, which will be held from 12:15 p.m.-1:15 p.m. in Textor 101, is an opportunity to learn more about the Middle States reaccreditation process and what is involved.
During his one-day Self-Study Preparation visit, Hartnett will also meet with President La Jerne Terry Cornish, the Middle States Steering Committee including co-chairs John Fracchia and Te-Wen Lo, and members of the college Board of Trustees. The primary focus of the visit is to discuss IC’s draft Self-Study Design, which was submitted to Dr. Hartnett on March 19.

The Self-Study Design
The Self-Study Design is a document developed by Ithaca College that serves to guide the self-study process and will function as a blueprint for the Steering Committee and its Working Groups. It identifies the process for selecting the institutional priorities to be evaluated in the Self-Study Report; articulates how the Self-Study Report will address the MSCHE Standards; organizes tasks relevant to the self-study; and serves as a gauge of progress being made by the Steering Committee and Working Groups during the process.
The Steering Committee will revise the Self-Study Design based on Dr. Hartnett's feedback and submit a final draft to him to be accepted.
The Middle States Reaccreditation Process
In March 2023, Ithaca College announced the start of its periodic reaccreditation process with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), a regional association that performs peer evaluation and accreditation of public and private universities and colleges in selected regions of the United States. Every eight years, IC is required to submit a Self-Study Report, followed by a campus visit by an MSCHE board of examiners.
