Networking Opportunity with local Ithaca Performing Arts Scene!

By Cooper Rothman, March 31, 2024

Use Your Day off to Visit 3 Local Theaters on the Ithaca Arts Career Discovery Trip!

Join Cooper Rothman, Career Engagement Specialist for the School of Music, Theatre and Dance, as we venture off of Ithaca's campus to visit the Kitchen Theatre Company, the Hangar Theatre, and the State Theatre of Ithaca! At each location, we'll be guided on a tour "behind the scenes" of their facilities, professionals will discuss what it is like to work in the industry, and be open for a Q&A. The best part is that this event is happening on Tuesday, April 9th, so you don't have to miss class to expand your network in the Ithaca area!

Included in the Ithaca Arts Career Discovery Trip is the guided transportation to all three venues and a free lunch in the Ithaca Commons. Students must be available for the entire duration of the event, leaving campus at 8:30am and returning before 4pm on Tuesday, April 9th

To register for this completely free excursion, sign up on Engage with this link, or scan the QR code below: https://ithaca.campuslabs.com/engage/event/10062443. Registering does not guarantee students a spot, but those chosen based on demand will be notified by Friday, April 5th.

Check out more information about these theatres from their websites!

The Kitchen Theatre Company: In 1991, the Kitchen Theatre Company was created as place where talented and determined young artists could work together and hone their craft. Led by Matt Tauber and Tim O'Brien, the Kitchen Theatre Company’s productions were infused with the high energy and desire for change in how we see the world. Norm Johnson, Jr. held the artistic reins from 1994 to 1997, championing thought-provoking works.

The Hangar Theatre: On July 11, 1975, the Hangar Theatre opened with Man of La Mancha, thanks to more than a decade’s effort by impassioned citizens in Ithaca, NY. Today, the Hangar Theatre has achieved national prominence as a regional theatre producing exceptional plays and serving as a learning environment for rising theatre professionals.

The State Theater of Ithaca: Since 1928, The State Theatre of Ithaca has served as one of the most significant venues for performing arts in the Finger Lakes region. With its 1,600-seat capacity, it has long been the largest venue of its kind in Ithaca, New York. According to the History Center of Tompkins County, downtown Ithaca once boasted seven grand theaters, including the Lyceum, the Crescent, and the Strand. A longstanding community destination for Ithacans and surrounding residents, The State Theatre is the last remaining historic performing arts theatre in all of Tompkins County.
