We hope this message finds you well! As we head into the final stretch of the spring semester we are reaching out to you as students living on campus about some important considerations as you prepare for your move out.
As a reminder, due to the modified academic calendar, final exams will run from Thursday, May 9, through Tuesday, May 14. Move out for all students who are not participating or supporting our Class of 2024 May Commencement ceremony is 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15.
We understand that a mid-week move out may not be feasible for all of our students for travel or other personal circumstances. For that reason, we continue to offer a Late Departure Request Form; however, due to the more condensed Senior Week and Commencement timeline we ask that you only submit a late departure request if absolutely necessary. This is because we anticipate increased traffic on campus, with students and their guests on campus celebrating May Commencement. For more information about move-out, we encourage you to visit the Move Out webpage.
Please note if you are required to stay to participate in or support Commencement, a late departure request form will be submitted on your behalf from your supervisor. Seniors and others participating in or supporting May 2024 Commencement are allowed to stay until 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Monday, May 20.
We would also like to call your attention to this recent announcement about an upcoming construction project involving Baker Walkway and Terrace 1 that may also impact move out. The construction project is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 8, and during the duration of the project, parking availability and the flow of vehicular traffic in Lower J-Lot near West Tower and Terrace 1 will be reduced. We anticipate that this could potentially cause a bottleneck during the move-out process, especially for students residing in East and West Towers and for students coming to the area to return residence hall keys to the Office of Residential Life, located in the East Tower Lobby. For those who are able to do so, we encourage you to walk to the Towers to return your keys so that parking close to the Towers is reserved for those moving out of the building. This additional congestion is another reason why we encourage moving out no later than the Wednesday, May 15, move-out date.
We understand that this situation may cause inconvenience, and we appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work to minimize any potential disruptions to the move-out process. As you make your preparations for move out, we hope you take this information into consideration.
We wish you a successful finish to the Spring 2024 semester!
